My top 10 pregnancy quotes

In a bid to find my “trying to conceive zen” for the new year, I’ve decided to draw a line in the sand. Today marks the end of “my pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage,” and marks the beginning of trying to fall pregnant again. I was pregnant. I had a miscarriage. It all happened. I learnt some valuable lessons from that experience that I will take forward with me. But there’s a lot I’ll leave behind too.

So, as the first step to achieving my zen state, I wanted to re-inspire myself about why I want to be a mother in the first place. It’s hard to actually verbalise my reasons, other than I want to create a soul with my husband that would be made from pure love. I figure that’s a good start, but I wanted some extra inspiration.
After a bit of research, here are my top 10 quotes to inspire pregnancy and re-inspire motherhood:

1. “The most important thing she’d learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.” ~ Jill Churchill
2. “To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and undoubtedly inhabited.” ~ Anne Buchanan & Debra Klingsporn

3. “Making a decision to have a child–it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” ~ Elizabeth Stone

4. “Before you were conceived I wanted you. Before you were born I loved you. Before you were here an hour I would die for you. This is the miracle of Mother’s Love.” ~ Maureen Hawkins

5. “It seems an insult to nature and to the Creator to imagine that pregnancy was ever intended to be a sickness.” ~ Mrs E.B. Duffey, What Women Should Know, 1873
6. “In giving birth to our babies, we may find that we give birth to new possibilities within ourselves.” ~ Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn, Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting

7. “We have a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful. It’s that women are strong.” ~ Laura Stavoe Harms
8. “Birth takes a woman’s deepest fears about herself and shows her that she is stronger than them.” ~ Author unkown
9. “You are pregnant and you are powerful. You are bold and you are beautiful. Go forward in your boldness, in your beauty and in your connectedness. Trust your body to birth and know that the collective power of women worldwide will be with you.” ~ Author unknown.
10. Babies are bits of star-dust blown from the hand of God. Lucky the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.” ~ Larry Barretto.
What are/were your reasons for wanting to become a mother or father? I’d love to hear them, and any other favourite pregnancy quotes or sayings you might have! Drop me a comment to share yours.
